Before you buy a diamond, you’ll need to be well versed in the 4C's — which
contribute to the beauty, rarity and, ultimately, the value and cost of your
ring. Diamond dealers use these four factors when evaluating diamonds. And you
should know them inside and out in order to make an informed decision.

Perhaps the most important — and most complex — factor in determining the
value of your diamond, the cut (or make) refers to the number, placement, and
shape of facets, or
polished planes.
The height of the top of the stone (crown), the depth of the cone-shape bottom
(pavilion), and the width of the top facet (table) determine the quality of a
diamond cut.
The better the cut the more costly the stone, as it affects its durability,
brilliance (white light reflection) and fire (reflection of rainbow colors).
